In case you missed it, a recording of our webinar is available for your viewing.

The Blood Research Institute in collaboration with its K12 Clinical Scholars Program participants will host a unique virtual workshop on August 26, 2021 focused on heparin induced thrombocytopenia (HIT). The Workshop endeavors to bring clinicians, glycobiologists, and technologists together with the overarching goal to stimulate actionable ideas at to improve our understanding of HIT and drive next generation prediction, diagnostic, and treatment modalities.

Workshop attendees will be provided access to pre-recorded lectures (45-60 minutes each) from all four investigators that provide background information on clinical and biological aspects of HIT, heparin structure, and emerging glycotechnologies. These pre-recorded videos will be available several weeks in advance of the Workshop and can be viewed at any time. During the August 26th Workshop, the four speakers will give more focused research talks that build on the pre-recorded lectures and focus on specific aspects of HIT. Finally, ample time is provided for engaging discussions related to improving HIT outcomes. Participants can expect learn the following from the Workshop:

1.    Current clinical management of HIT

2.    HIT mechanism(s)

3.    Structural details of heparin and endogenous heparan sulfate

4.    Heparin-protein interactions

5.    Mass spectrometry-based glycomics approaches to characterizing heparin
